On Sunday, May 16, 2010, The Sarasota Choral
Society presented an old fashioned Hymn Sing at
Bee Ridge
Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Florida in order to
raise funds for the organization. Led by
Artistic Director Geneviève Beauchamp and president Paul
Weber, the event featured Dr. Jonathan Spivey as organ
and piano accompanist with several duets performed
during the event with Ms. Beauchamp. Mr. Weber
introduced and spoke about the hymns which varied from
the early church, to traditional, to gospel, and
contemporary. Such hymns as "The Old Rugged Cross", "How
Great Thou Art", and "The Battle Hymn of The Republic",
just to name a few. After the singing, everyone enjoyed
punch by Ms. Beauchamp and Lauryn Sasso's homemade
cookies.
A love offering was made and enough money was
collected to surpass our first fiscal goal in order to
meet all of our obligations from last year. Further fund
raisers will go towards our next performance. Many
thanks to all of the active participants who have
contributed their time and effort into making these
events successful. |
