Community Outreach

The Sarasota Choral Society is a proud supporter of Sarasota Young Voices, a community choir for children aged 5-18, which was formed in 2007 by Geneviève Beauchamp. SYV is now being directed by James Guyer. Since its inception, SYV has concentrated on providing an enriching musical experience by exposing young singers to a wide variety of repertoire. The group now boasts more than 70 members from both Sarasota and Manatee counties. The main choir and its Chamber Choir have travelled extensively, nationally and internationally, to perform and take part in various musical experiences, including Disney, New Orleans, North Carolina, Colorado, Canada, France, England, Ireland, Greece and Italy.

SYV performs yearly at The Sarasota Choral Society's Messiah concert and often collaborates during the year with Key Chorale, Circus Sarasota, the Sarasota Orchestra and the Sarasota Ballet.

SYV are more than singers making music once a week; from the beginning there has been a deep friendship amongst the singers. The children work in a respectful environment and always look to be musically challenged.

You can read about Sarasota Young Voices in more detail here.

In addition, The Sarasota Choral Society actively partners with many other groups and societies in the area. Please see take a peek below at our recent performances, scholarship news and other proud moments in recent SCS history.

Concert for Ukraine

In spontaneous response to the tragic events in Ukraine, our artistic director Genevieve pulled together a public benefit concert in just two weeks. The venue was the beautiful Church of the Palms in Sarasota. SCS teamed up with several other choral groups and societies and schools to perform amongst other pieces, the hauntingly beautiful Ukrainian Alleluia written by composer Craig Courtney.

Soloists from the Sarasota Opera Orchestra also volunteered their time and wonderful talent to share with us stunning pieces of music to reflect the mood. The event raised an incredible $18,000 on the day, not including donations given via other means.

Supporting Sarasota Young Voices

Paul Weber, Vice President of the Sarasota Choral Society, presents a check for $3,000 from the Sarasota Choral Society Foundation, to Genevieve Beauchamp, Artistic Director of Sarasota Young Voices, following the February, 2022 meeting of the Society’s Board of Directors. The funds will be used to help cover expenses for three deserving members of Young Voices when the group travels to Denver CO in June, 2022, to perform a series of concerts. Said Alana Hufford, President of the Society, “We are so happy to help these young people on their musical journeys!”
